Halloween House by Eric Alder

Goblins in the gloom
Paper bags rustling
Witches riding brooms
Ghosts are bustling
Shrieks of delight
Heard in the park
Halloween's fun
Being scared on the dark!

A hilarious sighting in Baker City!
Spotted this in a window above Short Term Gallery
in Baker City Oregon. Our wonderful artist friend
Tom Novak created this cat and window! Tom has been
so instrumental in encouraging local artists here in Baker City.
Here's a link to the gallery: http://www.shorttermgallery.com/
and here's a link to Tom Novak's art: http://novakstudio.com/
We are here in Baker City to visit Tom as he's quite
ill and needs lots of hugs, good thoughts and prayers sent his way.

Poetry Jam! October 22, 2013 Reflecting

Lake Oswego Oregon October 22, 2013

Reflecting
When much younger I would stare
Into mirrors-finding flaws-
Wondering how others really saw me
Now as I  get ready for each new day
I see my family in my face:
My mother, my children-even my siblings...
Not worrying about how others see me
Finally comfortable in my skin
~~~~~~~~~~~
Thanks to Alan of Poetry Jam for this weeks prompt-
Eric Alders Little Lost Toy
OH!
I'm a little truck lost
Accidentally tossed
By my little boy
I'm his favorite toy
He is missing me
Screaming like a banshee
While his patient mother
Backs up and finds me
Eric Alder posts a photo every Monday
to inspire you and me.
Thanks Eric- and click on the link below
It's Awww Monday!!
Obviously these piggies went
to the market far too often!
I spotted these two piggies in a field next to our
local Pumpkin Patch. They were guarded by the dogs below.
As if they needed any guard dogs!!!
Six Word Saturday and Shadow Shot Sunday! October 19-20, 2013
Mt Shasta has some new snow
A few weeks ago we began to get some
rain and Mt Shasta some new snow.
Fall is here and winter is coming.....!
Our driveway gets a new coat....
A few days ago one of our much needed projects
has been checked off our list. The driveway
really needed a new coat of asphalt before
winter settled in.  Now there's no chance
of further deterioration and it looks great!
~~~~~~~
Have a great weekend!

How one can get easily distracted in the kitchen

I made Focaccia yesterday for the first time and
while I was cleaning up the extra flour I saw in
that pile of flour a Mermaid.

So then I had to start fiddling around
to see what else I could make.
I could have gone on forever, but
realized while I was drawing with flour
my sweetie pie was sweating away
building his workshop in the garage.

I am so easily distracted....
and Russell can be so focused!

We've been here about 18 months and Russell
finally has time to put his garage in order! Hurrah!

Home Home on the Range....

Oregon 66 near the Pinehurst Inn

Home, home on the dump
Where beer cans and cantalope rot
Where seldom is heard a recycling word
And the locals do need to be taught
~~~~~~
Out in remote areas recycling is not easy
as there are not enough people to make it
economically feasible. Some folks work
at recycling and others just toss it aside
just like this used up stove.
Peggy at Poetry Jam came up with trash
as this weeks theme. To see what others wrote
or to participate just sashay over here:
And for heavens sake have a great day!
This ram loves to have his head rubbed!
While this nanny goat just wants a hand out!
Both of these animals live on a farm near us-
we get our eggs here plus lots of good advice on growing food.
We have learned so much from all our neighbors -
plus we have made so many good friends here.
Six Word Saturday and Shadow Shot Sunday October 12-13,2013
Notes from our garden:
Summer is over....
vegetable garden sleeping....
Except for a few die hard flowers and
the perennial herbs all the rest of the
garden has been put to bed.
I have mulched with alfalfa hay, compost,
chicken manure and also scattered
some cereal rye seeds to grow some "green manure".
I'll turn that over in early spring.
Meanwhile Russell has finished our greenhouse!
He started in May and each month would spend a
bit more money adding to it. This month Russell put
the finishing touches of cedar siding, wood preservative,
paint, caulking and the piece de resistance was
him finding a practically new storm door for only
$20 at a neighbors garage sale!!
That was a great find as a new door  would have
 been $150 at the local building supply store.
Recycling at its best!
The greenhouse gets quite warm inside during the day.
Right now it gets up to 100F degrees at the highest
which means it will be a great place to grow winter
vegetables and start plants in the very early spring.
Summer and fall it will be too warm.
I figure it will also be a lovely place
to sit and read in the winter....might even be a fun place
for a pre-dinner party! I'll just have to keep a path
shoveled from the house to it.
I spotted this Red Dragonfly on the garden fencing
while cleaning up the garden for winter.
It hung out with me for quite awhile.
Awww Monday October 7, 2013
A few days ago we heard that familiar "bash" and "thud"
 while we were sitting outside and Russell picked up this cute
little male Goldfinch off the deck and held it in his hands
so it might recover from the shock of hitting a window.
After about 10 or so minutes he opened up his hands
and the little guy just sat there for awhile looking around
and finally flew away! Such a pretty little bird.
If we hadn't heard it hit the window the chances are it
would have died.
As you can see the little Goldfinch left a calling card
on Russell's hand. Was that a "Thank you" ?
Magpie Tales Tick Tock
There once was a chef obsessed
About spices and what was the best
He kept checking his list
Of what he might have missed
Forgetting he might become thyme-less
Three more baby quilts finally finished!
I started making these months ago
for three little boys due sometime this fall
and finally finished them yesterday!
The first one has been mailed off to Boston
as he was born September 29th.
I found this darling giraffe material
in Ashland, Oregon.
I call this quilt
"Stand Tall and Reach For the Stars"
This will be going to North Carolina
eventually where this little baby boy's
US Navy daddy is stationed.
I had a jungle theme going with
all three of these quilts....
This one is called "Jungle Buddies"
Last but not least this quilt will
be mailed off to Portland Oregon
once little "Max" is born.
The title of this quilt is
"Lions and Tigers and No Bears Oh My"
Original photo by Eric Alder
I'm sorry Eric
I cannot explain
What made me do this
Please blame my brain
At my first glance
 I saw those pipes
I just had to meddle
And it wasn't nice
I stepped on the gas
Instead of the brake pedal
Eric Alder posts one of his fine photos
every week to challenge our writing muses...
